Latest Census Bureau Resources for Grant Professionals

United States Census Bureau data are foundational in writing successful grant applications, and it is critical that grant professionals stay up to-date with the latest skills for accessing new data. We will start with an overview of the American Community Survey, an ongoing survey that collects and produces population and housing information for 40+ topics every year. It is the definitive data source recognized by private foundations and government agencies for their grant making.

Next, we will show how to access popular data for grant applications using the latest version of data.census.gov, the official site to access data from the 2020 Census, ACS, and other popular surveys and programs. This will include live demonstrations showing tips and tricks to search for data. Finally, we will share information to help you continue to expand your Census Bureau knowledge, such as training webinars through Census Academy and data user support contact information.

The session is recommended for all attendees. Following this session, attendees will be able to list current Census Bureau tools and outline how those tools can be used for writing grants. There is no prerequisite for attendance, and no advance preparation is required. The program level for this session is overview. Attendees can earn up to 1.0 hour of CPE credit in the field of specialized knowledge (nonprofits and government).
